Application review and acceptance updates

2017-2018 Graduate School Application Status

Time Line:

  • The Graduate Review Committee completed the application review process.   Admittance letters will be sent via email during the week of March 20th - 24th.
  • Candidates have until April 15th to accept or decline an admittance offer
  • We anticipate that waitlist and decline letters will be sent between March 28th-31st
  • We do maintain a waitlist and information will be updated periodically

Review Process:

  • We have 20 graduate seats
  • We receive 206 completed applications for review
  • We score the applications with a given rubric in the following areas:
    • GRE
    • GPA
    • Statement of Purpose
    • Reference Letters
  • Every application is reviewed
  • We rank the candidates based on the total numeric score
  • We then choose the candidates in the top 20% for admit and waitlist

Waitlist Process:

  • As seats become available due to admit declines, we will reconvene and review our waitlist
  • Notifications will be sent to applicants placed on the waitlist
  • Our waitlist is not ranked; therefore, we will not be able to field questions about individual chances for admission

Financial Information for Accepted Students:

As of the academic school year 2016-2017, the CSD Department has 3 full-time (e.g. 20 hours per week, full tuition waiver) and 6 part-time (e.g. 10 hours per week, one-half tuition waiver ) with hourly pay of $18.  Generally speaking, 1st year graduate students do not receive a TA for Fall Quarter.  They make application during Fall Quarter and may be awarded Teaching Assistantships based on faculty need and student’s skills.  We do not offer Teaching Assistantships as a component of our initial admittance offer.

If you qualify for work study funding, we do have limited opportunities to work with faculty in the department.  Your financial aid status will be determined by filling out the FAFSA.  For more information please contact the Financial Aid Department  They have additional resources including a table of 2016-2017 Tuition and Fee Schedule
