The World Issues Forum has invited Phyllis Bennis, a fellow at the Institute for Policy Studies and author of "Understanding ISIS," to give a presentation on campus this Wednesday.  The global reign of terror and violence from ISIS continues to intensify, despite significant advances from the United States and other nations. With the increased frequency of these attacks and their public displays of defiance, understanding the somewhat mysterious origins of ISIS is crucial. Bennis will pull back the curtain on this organization and its relationship to the war in Iraq. She'll explain  how the United States became so wrapped up in this conflict and address the underlying question on many minds: "Can you really go to war on terror?"

The event is co-sponsored by the WWU Department of Political Science, Whatcom Community College, Veterans for Peace Jonathan J. Santos Chapter 111, Voices for Middle East Peace.  Bennis will also present at 3 p.m. at Whatcom Community College in the Syre Auditorium and at 7 p.m. at Village Books with Whatcom Peace & Justice Center and Voices for Middle East Peace.
