About
Dr. Mangum joined Western in 2024, teaching ancient history and literature. He studied Northwest Semitic languages and literature at the University of Wisconsin-Madison (MA) and completed a PhD in ancient Hebrew at the University of the Free State in Bloemfontein, South Africa. His research draws on history, linguistics, literary theory, and Translation Studies to analyze how figures of speech from classical Hebrew were interpreted in ancient translations of the Hebrew Bible. His interests include the history of the Levant and the ancient Mediterranean, close reading and interpretation of ancient texts, and the translation of ancient literature.
