Savannah Bishop, PhD
Visiting Assistant Professor
About
Savannah Bishop is a Visiting Assistant Professor whose research specializes in Ancient Mediterranean Archaeology, with a focus on amphorae, shipwrecks, and ceramic production in the Ancient Greek, Roman, and Byzantine worlds. She employs archaeological, scientific, and digital humanities methodologies, including ceramic petrography, GIS, 3D documentation, and conservation technologies, to examine patterns of connectivity, trade, and cultural exchange across the Mediterranean. Her training and teaching experience have prepared her to offer dynamic, evidence-based courses in ancient history with a student-centered approach. She has taught Digitizing the Past, a hands-on introduction to digital archaeology using photogrammetry, 3D modeling, and historical methodology, and served as a Teaching Assistant for courses on the history of technology, maritime trade, seafaring, art history, conservation, and periods from prehistory through the Middle Ages. Drawing on her background in Classical Studies (BA and MA, Brandeis University) and extensive archaeological fieldwork in Greece, Türkiye, and Italy, she combines textual and material culture in the classroom.
