What is NACLO?

The North American Computational Linguistics Olympiad (NACLO) is a contest where high-school students solve linguistic puzzles. You’ll learn about the diversity and consistency of language, while exercising logic skills. No prior knowledge of linguistics or second languages is necessary.

Registration is FREE for all high school and middle school students. Your absence at school will be excused.

Winners of NACLO are eligible to compete in the International Linguistics Olympiad (IOL), one of twelve international high school science Olympiads. The next IOL will be held in Bucharest, Romania from July 26-August 2, 2026 (all expenses paid!)
