About
Professor Burton’s research focuses on eighteenth- and nineteenth-century French literature, culture, and performance. His interests include queer and trans studies, literature and music, opera studies, gender and sexuality studies, theories of sound and the voice, and performance studies. His current project, tentatively titled Queer Voices: Opera, Literature, and the Performing Body, examines various forms of theatrical and operatic performance as conduits for the realization or exploration of subversive, queer gender expressions in eighteenth- and nineteenth-century France.
