Major and Minor Information

Majors

In order to declare a major in a language offered by the Modern & Classical Languages Department students must fill out a "Major Declaration Card" (available in Old Main 230 or Miller Hall 223). This form must be signed by the student and the section advisor.  The card is approved by the Department Chair and sent to the Registrar's Office.  Students can also submit directly to Old Main 230.

We suggest and encourage students to speak with the respective advisor for their major. A list of advisors is available on the Advisors page of this website. After working with an advisor, and completing the required courses, students must fill out and submit a Major Evaluation to the section advisor.  The section advisor will approve and submit to the Department Chair for approval.  Approved Major Evaluation forms will remain in the Modern & Classical Languages office in Miller Hall 223 until they are picked up by the student.  Student should pick up their Evaluation form in advance of their graduation audit with the Registrar's Office.

Note: Students who desire to pursue a Major in Spanish must complete the Spanish Major Application and submit it to the Spanish section advisor with the Major Declaration Card for approval.

Minors

A "Minor Declaration Card" is available from the Registrar's Office or in Miller Hall 223. This card is to be filled out by students and his/her language advisor, then signed by the chair. A list of advisors is available on the Advisors page of this website.  After speaking with an advisor, and completing the required courses, students may fill out and submit a Minor Evaluation to the section advisor for approval.  Approved Minor Evaluation forms will remain in the Modern & Classical Languages office in Miller Hall 223 until they are picked up by the student.  Students should pick up their Evaluation form in advance of their graduation audit with the Registrar's Office.
