Student Checklist

Freshman and Sophomore Year

  • Work on fulfilling university GURs
  • Choose news/editorial, public relations, visual journalism, or environmental studies/journalism 
  • Declare journalism pre-major
  • Meet with academic adviser
  • Take JOUR 190, JOUR 207, and JOUR 214
  • Plan for concentration topic, complete prerequisites for major courses
  • Become familiar with the library and its resources

Junior Year

  • Take 300-level classes required for sequence and two publications
  • Start taking classes in concentration
  • Declare major
  • Transfer students: bring transcript to advisor for journalism credits
  • Start planning/applying for internships

Senior Year

  • Take 400-level classes required for sequence, internship & remaining publications
  • Complete concentration
  • Request major and minor evaluations 2 quarters prior to graduation
  • Apply for graduation

General

  • Apply for scholarships and internships
  • If GPA drops below 2.5, see adviser immediately
