B.A., Communications, Washington State University
Thesis: Crisis Communication
Karen's first experience with Communication Sciences and Disorders was as a parent of a client in the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. She is continually impressed with the knowledge of the clinical educators and faculty and service provided by the graduate student clinicians. She credits her child's current success with interventions he received in the Speech-Language-Hearing Clinic. Before joining the department, Karen worked with students and business recruiters on campus in the Career Services Center. Prior to moving to Bellingham and working at Western, Karen was an analyst for the King County Charter Review Commission, staff in the King County Executive's Office, and served as a Legislative Assistant for a Seattle state representative. She is currently pursuing her master's degree in Adult and Higher Education in Woodring College of Education here at WWU.
In her spare time (after studies), you can find her with her family traveling, gardening, boating in the San Juan Islands and Lake Whatcom, skiing at Mt. Baker, camping, hiking and backpacking - enjoying the beauty and bounty of the Northwest.
