About
Rudy Alamillo earned his PhD in Political Science from the University of California, Riverside and joined the faculty at WWU in 2019. His research examines cross-racial campaign appeals in the United States, with a focus on non-Hispanic White candidate appeals to Hispanic voters. Dr. Alamillo’s research seeks to understand how non-Hispanic candidates racialize themselves to appeal to Hispanic voters, as well as how Hispanic voters de-racialize themselves to fit into American society. His research has appeared in Politics, Groups, and Identities and Sociology Compass, and has been covered by outlets such as NBC Latino and The Washington Post.
Dr. Alamillo teaches a variety of courses in the American Politics and Public Policy subfield, as well as special courses in Comparative Politics such as the Politics of Mexico.
