COLLABORATIVE LEADERSHIP IN WASHINGTON STATE

Join us for a special screening of the documentary "Finding Common Ground: Collaborative Leadership in Washington State." This film tells the compelling story of diverse individuals overcoming differences to address some of the most complex conservation challenges in the Pacific Northwest. It highlights the journey from the "Fish Wars" of the 1960s and 70s to the landmark collaborations that followed, such as the Centennial Accord and the Yakima Basin Integrated Plan.

Panelists include Daryl Williams (The Tulalip Tribes), Kadi Bizyayeva (Stillaguamish Tribe), Kelli Linville (former Bellingham Mayor and Washington State Representative), and Michael Kern (UW, mediator, and documentary co-producer).

Co-hosted by The Sustainability Engagement Institute, Morse Leadership Initiative, and Western Washington University's Environmental Studies, Tribal Relations Office, and Urban and Environmental Planning & Policy.

With America's democratic experiment mired in division and dysfunction, the state of Alaska votes to revolutionize their election system. The surprising results spark new alliances, a growing call for election reform, and fierce pushback from political parties. Could changing how Americans vote also change politics for the better?

Join the Munro Institute, WWU’s Political Science Association and FairVote Washington to view Majority Rules: the movie. After the film, FairVote Executive Director Lisa Ayrault and WWU Political Science Professors Cathy Wineinger and Todd Donovan will answer audience questions. Refreshments will be provided.

A PORTRAIT OF A SMALL TOWN, DIVIDED

A 17-year-old girl adopted from Ethiopia leads a racial justice march in her small, conservative town, igniting a fierce cultural battle that divides friends, families, and church members and forces the community to confront deeply ingrained issues of identity and race.

Join the Munro Institute, Woodring’s Education & Social Justice Minor, and Western’s Center for Education, Equity, and Diversity to view the documentary Lynden. After the film, Director Bryan Tucker will speak about the film and answer audience questions. Refreshments will be provided.
