Protecting our Planet: Election Stakes in Washington and Beyond

Just months ago, the U.S. Supreme Court overruled its decision in Chevron v. Natural Resources Defense Council (1984), significantly curtailing the ability of federal agencies like the Environmental Protection Agency to issue rules that aid in implementation of federal laws. Here in Washington, an initiative on the November ballot would repeal portions of the state's 2021 Climate Commitment Act. In this panel, faculty will discuss some of the many environmental policy issues being contested on the Washington ballot this fall and in the presidential race, and potential impacts on communities, business, and the planet we share.
