The Global Humanities and Religions department offers five Minors:

Department Minor Requirements

28-30 Credits 

The Minor in Humanities provides interdisciplinary study of the humanities (philosophy, religion, history, literature and the arts) in societies around the globe.

  • Three courses (13-15 credits) from: HUMA 110, 121, 122, 123, 243, 271, 273, 275, 276, 277, 278, 281, 290; REL 231 (or HNRS 219), 232, 233, 234, 265, 283, 290 ** Up to two of the following courses may be counted towards this category: HNRS 103, 104, 105, 106
  • Three courses (15 credits) from: HUMA 302, 321, 322, 323, 325, 327, 329, 360, 362, 372, 390, 421, 422, 423, 425, 427, 429, 490; REL 303, 330, 331, 332, 334, 336, 338, 340, 341, 342, 345, 375 (or EAST 375), 378, 380 (or EAST 380), 382 (or EAST 382), 390, 426, 428, 490; or other appropriate upper-division courses under advisement.

30 Credits 

The Minor in the Study of Religion provides scholarly, critical, nonsectarian study of religions. Students study religious beliefs, practices, identities and organizations, and how they have influenced and been influenced by other aspects of society and culture.

The Minor in Arabic and Islamic Studies provides intermediate instruction in Arabic, and introduction to the history of Islamic civilization, and upper division electives from several academic departments.

28-30 Credits 

The Minor in Digital Humanities (DH) involves a combination of computing and humanities research. Through the design and use of computational tools and methods, digital humanities is characterized by an engagement with collaborative and interdisciplinary modes of knowledge production, scholarship, publishing, and teaching.

  • CSCI 102, 105, 202, HUMA 110 (17 credits)
  • Humanities Electives (8-10 credits). Complete two Humanities courses under advisement. One must have a HUMA prefix. One must be upper division.
  • HUMA 498 (3 credits). Under advisement, students will complete a capstone Digital Humanities research project in HUMA 498. To register for HUMA 498, students must complete a contract in the Global Humanities and Religions Department to identify a faculty supervisor and research topic.

27-30 Credits 

The minor in South and Southeast Asian Studies builds significant knowledge of the Indian subcontinent and Southeast Asia through the study of culture, religion, history, literature, gender, art, film, and other disciplinary approaches.
