Christopher Loar is a scholar of eighteenth-century literature and culture. His book Political Magic British Fictions of Savagery and Sovereignty, 1650-1750 appeared in 2014. His recent scholarship investigates eighteenth-century literature and the nonhuman environment. He co-edits the online journal Digital Defoe: Studies in Defoe and His Contemporaries.
