History 499

History 499 Pre-registration

2025-26 Pre-registration Open 4/2 - 4/30!

  • Do you have 90 credits or more?
  • Are you a History, History/Social Studies, or Latin American Studies Major?
  • Are you planning to graduate between fall 2025 & fall 2026?
  • Have you not taken the required HIST 499 capstone seminar?

If you answered yes to all 4 questions, then you are eligible to pre-register for HIST 499!

The History department has a pre-registration process for HIST 499, the capstone seminar, required for all History and History/Social Studies majors. If you are planning to graduate between fall 2025 and fall 2026, you need to preregister by April 30, 2025.

The department will assign students to a HIST 499 section based on the total number of credit hours each student has earned. Students may not get into their top choice, but every effort is made to enroll them in one of their top three.

The pre-registration survey allows students to choose their top three choices and then rank them by preference. Students will be asked to select the prerequisites that they've taken, or plan to take, for each of their three courses. The prerequisite must be completed (with at least a C- for History Majors or a C for History/Social Studies Majors) prior to the first day of the 499 class and only a single pre-requisite (not all) is required for each 499.

Before opening the link to the survey, review the 2025-26 HIST 499 Courses and Prerequisites below and compile a list of your choices. If you have any questions or need this form in an alternative format, please contact the History Department at history@wwu.edu.
