Bernard L. Boylan Scholarship
Established in 1998 to honor former Western professor Bernard L. Boylan. A collection of his papers held at the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies represent an important contribution both to History as an academic topic and the History of the Bellingham area. This scholarship provides funding for both undergraduate majors and graduate students studying History who have demonstrated academic achievement.
Carl and Evelyn Schuler Scholarship
Established in 1990 by former Western Faculty Athletic Representative and History professor Carl Schuler and Evelyn Schuler, former Student Health Operations manager at Western. This scholarship supports undergraduates majoring in History nearing graduation with demonstrated academic achievement.
Winston S. Carter Memorial Scholarship
Established in 2023 to honor the memory of Winston S. Carter who taught History and Social Studies in high schools across Europe and the United States. In his later years, he settled in Bellingham, Washington, where he not only taught but also attended courses through Western’s Academy of Lifelong Learning. This scholarship provides support for undergraduate students with preference to those pursuing a History/Social Studies major with the intent of becoming a teacher.
History Department Scholarship
Funded through generous donations by alumni, parents, faculty and others to the History Department Scholarship Fund, this scholarship supports undergraduate History majors who show dedication and promise in the field. Awards are distributed based on demonstrated academic achievement as well as related activities and interests.
Tuition and Fee Waiver
At the discretion of the History Department Scholarship Committee, tuition and fee waivers are awarded to both undergraduate and graduate History students to support continued enrollment and academic success.
