About

Dr. Moore is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders.  She has worked with young children with disabilities and their families for over 20 years in a variety of home, community, school, and clinical settings.  Her research focuses on the efficacy and efficiency of parent/caregiver implemented naturalistic language assessment and intervention as well as pre-service and in-service professional development practices.  Before coming to Western in 2019, Dr. Moore taught academic and clinical courses at the University of Oregon for 11 years.

Dr. Moore aspires to be a compassionate mentor who maintains high expectations and standards while teaching through scaffolded, errorless learning practices.  She believes that professional confidence grows as students begin to view themselves as critical thinkers who can apply knowledge learned in the classroom to real life applications.  To accomplish this, Dr. Moore uses case-based learning projects to foster individual reflection and analysis as well as guided group discussion and debate.

Dr. Moore grounds her research as well as her clinical and academic teaching in an ecological theory of child development and therefore values assessment and intervention practices that are family centered, culturally and linguistically sensitive, and authentic.  In this vein, she strives to train students in clinical methods that have been shown to be evidence based, clinically efficacious, and make meaningful differences in the lives of children and families.

Outside of work, Dr. Moore enjoys spending time with her family camping and exploring the wonders of the Pacific Northwest.
