Mikulencak-Kohlmeier Advantages of Learning Differently Scholarship
The Mikulencak-Kohlmeier Advantages of Learning Differently Scholarship was established by Lisa Ann Mikulencak and Bernhard Kohlmeier to provide scholarships to provide support for students with learning challenges who are pursuing a major or minor from a department within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences. The typical award amount is $1,000 each year for two years.
Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must be a declared a major and/or minor through the College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

Preference is given to applicants must have a documented learning disability as demonstrated through accommodations provided by Western Washington University's Disability Access Center or a documented IEP/504 plan from the applicant's high school. For information on how to obtain learning disability documentation, contact the Disability Access Center at 360-650-3083.

Applications must be entering into their third year of study at Western Washington University or have transferred to Western from another institution.

Students must remain in good academic standing within the College of Humanities and Social Sciences (GPA of 2.0 or above)
Application Process

Applicant must complete and submit the Mikulencak-Kohlmeier Learning Differently Scholarship Application by the April 26, 2024 deadline.

Included with the application is a required essay or audio/visual submission that describes your educational journey through the lens of your learning challenge(s).

Applicant must arrange for letters of recommendation from two faculty members. Please send the CHSS Faculty Recommendation form link to the faculty who will be submitting your letters of recommendation.

Pending student consent, the College of Humanities and Social Sciences will confirm accommodation support with Western's Disability Access Center.
