Elyse C. Alper Scholarship for International Studies

Don and Jan Alper established this scholarship in 2010 to honor and celebrate the life of their daughter Elyse and carry forward her lifelong joy of traveling and establishing friendships across continents. This scholarship provides opportunities for students to study outside the United States at recognized universities and to further promote greater international understanding and goodwill. Amount to be awarded verified annually, typical award amount is $4,800.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Applicant must have a minimum 3.3 GPA with at least three-quarters of coursework remaining before anticipated graduation, as of the beginning of Fall quarter in the year of award.

  2. Student must be planning to attend an endorsed institution outside the United States and with courses that will be accepted as a credit towards the applicant's WWU degree program. Applicant must provide verification from Faculty Advisor that any proposed course will be accepted towards the major.

Application Process

  1. Applicant must complete and submit the Elyse C. Alper International Studies Scholarship Application form by the April 26th 2024 deadline.
  2. Included with the application, is a required essay that describes:

    • The university outside the United States where the applicant plans to study.

    • What the applicant will study and how this will enhance his/her degree program.

    • Why the applicant is a strong candidate for international study.

  3. Applicant must arrange for letters of recommendation from two faculty members. Applicants should copy the CHSS Scholarship Recommendation form link into an email and send it to the faculty who will be submitting letters of recommendation.
